Using GT Web Localizer

What is GT Web Localizer?

Most papers can now be found with Google Scholar which references most of the IEEE / ACM databases as well as personal cites and CiteSeer.

Many of the papers you find on Google and Google Scholar will not give you access due to publisher restrictions. This is where GT Web Localizer comes in handy. You install a plugin from website and then use it after you do a search. It asks you to log in but the pages you see afterwards will be processed by the GT Library and allow you to immediately look at paper content without any further logins.

Where do I get GT Web Localizer?

Go here and add the LibX GT Stuff:
http://www.library.gatech.edu/search/web_localizer.php

The thing I would recommend most is the "Right-click Menu."

How do I use the Right-Click Menu?

First, do a search on the internet using either "Google.com" or "scholar.Google.com." I'm sure it works with both of these sites because I worked with the library when it wasn't.

Now, suppose you find a link to a paper that interests you. You click it and then the website starts asking you for login information. This is the common situation with IEEE for example.

In this case:

  • Go all the way back to the search results page where you saw that link on "Google.com" or "scholar.Google.com".
  • Right-Click on the white space on this page and select "Reload ... via GT Library Proxy"
  • Put in your GT account information if requested.
  • Click the link again and for many places including IEEE-Explore you will now be able to download the full thing.

What if it doesn't work?

Sometimes it doesn't work the first time. For example, there's a GT WebLocalizer frame at the top of the page, you click a paper and it tells you that it can't be found. Just click back and click the paper again.

If it doesn't seem to be working it all, we've found that sometimes this is due to access restrictions on new Firefox (and other) browsers. In this case, go to:
https://www.library.gatech.edu/localizer/

It will ask you for permission to accept the security certificate. ACCEPT IT!!!
