LaTeX on Windows |

LaTeX is just as easy to use on Windows as it is on Linux. Have no worries. First, you just need to install some basic packages. Make sure to get the right ones for your system (32 vs 64 bit). Also, try not to customize the installs, choose the generic options.
Next you will need an editing environment. I used to be a big fan of WinEdt, however have now switched exclusively to a free environment TeXstudio with more ability to customize and useful features. Some of the big advantages of TeXstudio are a very customizable toolbar and a built-in PDF viewer which lets you keep your other PDFs open in Acrobat Reader, highilights changes and keeps your place in the document while you edit.
To customize the menus in TeXStudio, make sure you enable "show advanced options" in Settings/Configure TexStudio. Then you can make your own custom toolbar that's most useful to you. That's it, now you can be a LaTex wiz on windows.
