April 2009 Golem Krang In Development

Jon Olson and Dan have been working hard over the last couple weeks. They are developing the final parts of the first link of Golem Krang

Here's what they've been up to. We are designing the power box for the robot. This is the blue box in the picture below. This box has two inputs (one from batteries and one from external power). The big things on the bottom are relays that are used by the Battery Management System (BMS) to ensure that batteries don't get overcharged and that they maintain a similar level of charge. The giant red thing is the switch to the power. There will also be an indicator light for power and an e-stop when running on batteries.

The purpose of this box is to provide power for all the robot components. The circular things on the side are circuit breakers which will be used to limit current to various devices such as arms, wheels and torso joints.

One difficult aspect of this work has been ensuring that there is sufficient space to route the gigantic wires that support our 500A current loads for 24V power. They have also had to make sure that we have all the holes for mounting various components such as motor drives, switches, BMS, sockets etc.
